MARCH 20TH- FOOD NOT BOMBS RALLY, Protest 3rd Anniversary of Occupation of Iraq! (center)
by JoeBoston Saturday March 04, 2006 at 04:12 PM

On Monday, March 20th, 2006 the people of Las Vegas will gather outside the Regional Justice Center and fill the courtroom as a show of solidarity and support for the local community group Food Not Bombs (FNB). Two womyn of FNB were cited for "feeding the homeless (over 25 people) without a permit". 8 homeless men were cited for "unlawful use of a hand signal" when they gave the finger to a park marshal who told them "you cannot eat in the park any more". The two womyn and 8 men all have court on Monday, March 20th at 8AM... March 20th is also the 3rd Anniversary of the invasion of Iraq. People are encouraged to bring food to share, signs to hold, and drums to play!

The people of Las Vegas are calling for action.....

************************************************************************************************************************************************************

PROTEST THE 3RD ANNIVERSARY OF THE OCCUPATION OF IRAQ AND SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL CHAPTER OF FOOD NOT BOMBS!

-Monday, March 20th @ 8AM

-Las Vegas Regional Justice Center, 200 Lewis Ave.

MONEY FOR PEOPLE, NOT FOR WAR!!!

-Bring food to share, drums to play, signs to hold, and voices to be heard!

************************************************************************************************************************************************************

QUESTION: WHY PROTEST?!?!?!

ANSWER: To show your solidarity with people struggling for social justice...To combat the growing fascist police state in Las Vegas...

...To give back to your community...To support the homeless and poor peoples' struggle...

...To express yourself...

...Because 2 womyn were given citations for feeding the homeless...

...Because 8 homeless men were jailed for "misuse of a hand signal" when they gave the finger to a park marshal who told them "you can't eat in the park any more"...

Solidarity
by Organize for Change Saturday March 04, 2006 at 06:17 PM

Organize for Change is encouraging all to support this action. The fact that police are oppressing the homeless and the people that feed those who are hungry is a serious issue that needs to be addressed by the Las Vegas community.

We stand in solidarity with all the activist of Food Not Bombs that are working to create a better world for all.

Organize for Change will be conducting a food drive on March 18th and 19th. The food that is collected will be used to do a feed out in front of the court house on March 20th. Please bring vegitarian items to the Bands Not Bombs on March 18th (more details on location to come) and Bikes Not Bombs critical mass bike ride on March 19th (Meet at UNLV's Amphitheater 6pm). Or even better make a vegitarian dish to bring to the court house on Monday March 20th at 8am.

Fighting oppression is not exceptional; it is our obligation.

Since When Feeding the Hungary Become a Crime
by Dave Peter Saturday March 04, 2006 at 08:47 PM

I find it outrageous that the City of Las Vegas has nothing better to do than to cite people trying to help their fellow human beings by providing meals to those in need. It is ironic that the date for this act of oppression against American citizens is on the anniversary of the Bush regime’s act of oppression against the people of Iraq. When a private citizens have to band together to do what the local government should be doing, feeding and those in need, and are then cited for violations of the law, it is apparent that local officials are more concerned with their corporate sponsors to taking care of the basic needs of the people. I stand in solidarity with Food Not Bombs for being humanitarian and helping those in need.

Coming together
by Mom Sunday March 05, 2006 at 02:54 AM

My thanks to all who are supporting me and the cause. I am not the important one. There are so many in need of support. I have learned so much in just the past few days, and of course the past few months- of all the oppression and NO need for it.

I remember very clearly when one man was suppose to be executed in Nevada. He had until midnight to change his mind about appealing his sentence.

The reporter stated something to the effect that "Nevada isn't really an activist state."

Well, I say, NOW is the time to change that!

Since last June I have seen the abuse, corruption, and oppression, first hand.

I am sorry I did not know sooner.

We only have a couple of weeks to organize for the March 20th protest against the Iraq occupation, etc. Let's all get together soon.

The reason why Nevada ain't "an activist state" is because all too many in Nevada don't know about "abuse, corruption, and oppression"--they're either spoiled or ignorant or both. Obviously, FOX News is no help, neither is the R-J and the rare exceptions to the rule are just that ...

CONFRONTING folks with the truth (as opposed to watering it down in order to spare someone's feelings*) ain't an alienating waste of time; people can in fact change for the better, like Scrooge did--and they better fucking change with a quickness, before something else like THIS happens:

Homeless Man Set on Fire in Boston Park

By ANDREW RYAN, Associated Press Writer

BOSTON - A homeless man sleeping in a park was attacked early Sunday by two men who kicked him in the stomach and then set him on fire, police said ... The 30-year-old homeless man, whose name was not released, told police he was awakened by the men kicking him in Langone Park in the city's North End.
He drifted back to sleep after the assault, but the men returned, drenched him with a flammable liquid and set his legs on fire, police said ... Nationally, the number of assaults against the homeless has risen dramatically since 2002, according to a recent report by the National Coalition for the Homeless. In 2005, 73 homeless people were assaulted nationwide and 13 died, the report said.

The kind of coy, snide, smug, Cafe Roma-esque condescending attitude I've seen stuck-up pricks have towards the poor over the years is at the very core of this act of evil, this atrocity. I just know it is. Some spoiled, ignorant fuck must have said to his homies, "I'm tired of these lazy welfare cheats, let's DO something about it!" Never mind that the REAL welfare cheats are corporate elitists like defense contractors, never mind that ending poverty would be a lot cheaper than going to war over someone else's oil ... And even if it wasn't cheaper, so what? Feeding the hungry is more important that buidling bombs, hence the title of this great organization ...

The aforementioned kind of economic cruelty must be CONFRONTED at every turn and not simply written off as a difference of opinion*.

http://www.lasvegascitylife.com/articles/2004/07/15/opinion/fear_no_evil/fearnoevil.txt

Evidently, someone's afraid the Biblical Rapture itself will occur if lazy cheats are ever fed or sheltered with American taxes. Funny how this concern wasn't prominent when the S&Ls failed in the '80s or after Enron was exposed.

And even though reporters revealed Ronald Reagan had fabricated that infamous welfare queen from Chicago with 80 false names, Reagan's overrated charisma -- and the mass media's corporate collusion -- kept the masses from minding that he continued to spread the Big Lie.
