The city of Las Vegas plans to increase its use of legal powers to force homeless people who are considered dangerous or unable to care for themselves to receive services. That effort might begin in earnest today, with Mayor Oscar Goodman looking on.
Goodman said he will be at Huntridge Circle Park today to talk to the homeless and observe city marshals attempting to carry out the controversial plan.

Las Vegas to force homeless mentally ill into treatment

Las Vegas opens another chapter today in efforts to get the homeless off the streets and out of city parks. Mayor Oscar Goodman says he'll personally be at one city park to support city marshals -- who're expected to begin taking mentally ill homeless people into custody for 72-hour evaluation and treatment.
That's whether they want to go or not...
