When at the event write keywords on the paper of what you will write about.

When interviewing people and recording an account of the event, you must take precautions to avoid reporting a bias story.

There are many versions of one story depending on how one is impacted by it. If there is conflict, report from as many different perspectives of the conflict as you can. Ask people what they think of the event. I advise you to interview at least one person who is not outspoken, and you may be surprised what you hear from this person.
