Las Vegas came out in force to greet the (Not My) President of the divided states this Thursday outside Thomas & Mack Center where the village idiot was speaking. We protested & resisted & delighted in the reverie of our right to peacefully assemble & express our disillusionment …………all the 4 of us.
Yes it was another passionate protest in Las Vegas as all the 4 of us stood on the corner of Trop & Swenson to let the Republicans know they are not getting away with giving our country over to the Corporations. Or Are they ?
The Fearless Revolutionary Joe Sacco, (new official title) & myself held a flag upside down as the Grand Figurehead passed by in his limousine averting his eyes to the truth & to his own failures as a leader & a Texan. Passerby also honked & made eye contact more out of curiosity than solidarity as Joe implored them to join the fight & I tried to convince them to sell their cars & give the money to Nader. 2008 is a short 4 years away !!!
Smokin' Joe also managed to incur the wrath of the very well trained & underpaid however snappily dressed Metro police officers who found it in their hearts to discuss with Joe his policy of crossing the street on the green light over & over. They seemed concerned that he might get hit by a car if he continued CROSSING ON THE GREEN !!! Instead of warning the drivers who were speeding by. They also threatened to ticket Joe if he continued to cross arbitrarily for “Obstruction of Traffic” which is similar to the offense drudged up for homeless people or other undesirables/fallout from the war on poor people known as Capitalism --“Obstruction of Commerce.” He was also warned for crossing “too slowly” even though the light was still green ! Our other 2 brave compatriots, our brothers/sistas NOT in arms were also warned about stepping into the street even for just a second. But the Republicans exiting the Circus inside were given no such warning even after standing in the street for several minutes waiting on the light to change while cars of non-patriots in their SUV's zoomed by. I'd like to think the kind officers related more to Joe's spirit of concern for his fellow Americans & therefore cared more for him than the Sheep who were doing as Sheep do, however I feel this might be a stretch of my reasoning capabilities. Maybe the officers were selectively enforcing the law in order to harass the protester bcuz they did not agree with his particular brand of politics.
All in all the protest was a success in that the powers that be now realize that we won't be pushed around, we won't just give in without a fight……all the 4 of us at least. For the other 1.6 million in this town who can say? Maybe they were already bought & sold a long time ago.
