Peace Now, the Las Vegas grassroots organization, has a whole day of protest planned for Saturday, March 19th (the 2nd Anniversary of the War in Iraq). But this is only the beginning as the group plans to stay united and continue to fight for an end to this war.

For some time now the Peace Now participants have been actively organizing and preparing for a day of action to express their outrage and disgust of the War in Iraq.

Sign-making, banner-creating, drum circle practices, and lots of outreach have kept the group very busy. Hard work and determination are sure to make this a protest worth being part of.

There are still plenty of ways to get involved with the events in the next few days. On Thursday morning there is the on-going Peace Vigil at 8AM at LV Blvd. and Bridger. On Friday there is a legal training workshop which will explain your rights and include role-playing to know what to do when approached by police.

And on Saturday there are multiple protest actions throughout the day- morning, noon, and night.

Thank you for this article reminding us of the efforts and actions of the Peace Now organization and others involved in the Las Vegas peace movements. It sure isn't easy in a town with so many finger pointers and very few finger lifters. Lets hope there is a great turn out tomorrow, March 19th, the day of world wide action against the war in Iraq. If there are any last minute preparations needed I hope the organizers of the event can slap up a quickie article before tomorrow. Peace.

Judge Orders Release of Abu Ghraib PhotosJudge Orders Release of Pictures Depicting Inmate Abuse at Abu Ghraib Prison in Iraq

The Associated Press

NEW YORK Sep 29, 2005 — Pictures of detainee abuse at Iraq's Abu Ghraib prison must be released despite government claims that they could damage America's image, a federal judge ruled Thursday.

THAT'S RIGHT! FUCK AMERICA'S IMAGE! AS FUNKADELIC SANG BACK IN 1972, "IF YA DON'T LIKE THE EFFECT, DON'T PRODUCE THE CAUSE!"

Gen. Richard B. Myers, the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, had maintained in court papers that releasing the photographs would aid al-Qaida recruitment, weaken the Afghan and Iraqi governments and incite riots against U.S. troops.

Hellerstein said in his 50-page opinion that he respected Myers' arguments but noted, "My task is not to defer to our worst fears, but to interpret and apply the law, in this case, the Freedom of Information Act, which advances values important to our society, transparency and accountability in government," Hellerstein said.
