Peace NOW Wins Circle Park!

After a long battle with the City of Las Vegas, Peace Now has secured permits for circle park.

On Sept. 22nd just two days before the event Peace Now was able to finalize permits for the use of the Huntridge Circle Park on Maryland Parkway. However the City of Las Vegas did not make this process easy for the organizers of Peace Now.
The city resisted every attempt that was made by Peace Now to ensure that the Sept. 24th event was legal and peaceful. City officials refused to work with Peace Now and demanded that the organization pay thousands for dollars for free speech. The organizers of Peace Now held their ground and demanded that they have the right to speak out against war, racism and social injustice on Sept. 24th.
Peace Now reached out to the community and organized a letter writing campaign that targeted the Deputy City Manager and Mayor. Through that pressure the city began to work with Peace Now rather than against them.
An agreement was made between Peace Now and the City for the use of the park on that day without police repression. Peace Now liberated Circle Park from the state and made it the People's Park for that day.
Peace Now would like to applaud all of the people who sent letters to city officials and showed that the PEOPLE UNITED WILL NEVER BE DEFEATED.
So now Peace Now is calling on the community to join with them at the People's Huntridge Circle Park on Saturday Sept. 24th to DEMAND THAT THE ILLEGAL OCCUPATION OF IRAQ END!
Rally starts at 12pm and will feature local and national speakers from community organizations. The event will also host live music being performed by Nick Caparso, DJ Shem, Over the Line, GDB, HELP and the Return.
Free Food and Water will be provided.

The voice of the people made a difference here in Las Vegas on whether or not people can use a public park to exercise their right to free speech without having to a surcharge for a constitutional right. This vitory was brought by a small group of people compared to the 100,000's who will be rising up and demanding that the Bush regime withdraw occupation forces from Iraq and return sovereignty to that nation. Our voices will not be ignored, we will not allow that to happen. Let's bring our working class sisters and brothers home from Iraq and give them living wage jobs with pensions, health insurance, and justice in the workplace at home.
