"FOOD NOT BOMBS" PROTESTS CITATIONS OF WOMEN FEEDING HOMELESS ON 3RD ANNIVERSARY OF IRAQ OCCUPATION

LAS VEGAS, NV - March 20, 2006 marks the 3rd Anniversary of the Occupation of Iraq by the United States. International protests will be calling for an end to this military aggression. Local homeless advocate Gail Sacco will be in court at 8AM at the Las Vegas Regional Justice Center located at 200 Lewis Ave. to defend the growing number of Las Vegas homeless and their right to food and survival.

On February 19, 2006 local homeless rights advocate Gail Sacco and another woman were given citations for "feeding the homeless (a gathering over 25 people) without a permit". The women were sharing food at Circle Park (Maryland Pkwy, just south of Charleston) where there have been daily picnics since August 2005. They were also told by park marshals they were "86'd" from the park for 6 months- and they would be arrested on sight if they returned. Food Not Bombs has been continuing to have daily picnics at 2PM despite the citations. Gail Sacco and others have been protesting with signs across the street from the park since being banned.

Gail Sacco plans to enter a plea of "not guilty" and says she and the ACLU are ready to take this case to federal court. According to Allen Lichtenstein of the ACLU, Sacco's constitutional rights have been violated by the authorities of the city of Las Vegas.
