Let's Get Maximum Participation
by Dave Peter Friday January 19, 2007 at 11:23 AM

Bush has chosen to ignore the will of the people by calling for an escalation of the war in Iraq with threats of expanding the war to Iran and Syria. Las Vegas needs to be part of January 27th showing of people power. This war will never end until the people show throw massive and frequent demostrations that the president cannot ignore what the people say. We cannot sit by while our GI's are called on to sacrifice for an illegal occupation and lost cause and tens of thousands of Iraqi's suffer from a foreign occupation and the civil war it caused.

STOP THE WAR NOW, NO ESCALATION, NO SABRE RATTLING.

Stand up and show up at 1 pm on Saturday Jan 27 in front of the federal court house on Las Vegas Blvd.

Maximum Participation means just that
by Saab Lofton Friday January 19, 2007 at 07:11 PM

Thanks, Dave. It's a damn shame you had to respond to YOUR OWN POST just to get it on the comments section. What? Is there a sale at the mall? AFI in town? Some new video game just came out? What's the distraction THIS time?

In exactly one year, one of two things will happen: Either a) Dubya's inbred, missing chromosomed ass will finally leave office ... and head straight for house arrest at that ranch of his for crimes against Humanity, or b) there'll be another 9-11-esque attack that'll get ig-nant motherfuckers all hot and bothered enough to declare him emperor (because even though whites are the most spoiled of the bunch, they've just GOTTA feel safe that damn bad)!

People who're holding their breath waiting for me to "tone it down" are going to fucking suffocate because coming across like this is the LEAST I can do since, by all rights, my cowardly ass oughta be going out like Che at this very moment. Is the pen mightier than the sword or was that just some line a dude come up with because he was afraid of being run through? I guess we're about to find out ...

Getting the Word Out
by Dave Peter Friday January 19, 2007 at 11:31 PM

Yeap Saab,

Participation in Indymedia has tapered off over the last year or so as have anti war activities. Hopefully that will change, now is the time to demand and end this war and mass actions across the country are needed.

The only sunshine in Las Vegas has been Mom's unstraying support for the homeless here.

SOLIDARITY FOREVER

"In exactly one year, one of two things will happen: Either a) Dubya's inbred, missing chromosomed ass will finally leave office ..."

Speaking of the homeless, being on the streets is so stressful that you make mistakes you wouldn't otherwise make. Case in point, I should've said TWO yearS, not one. When every day is a fight for survival (and you don't have regular access to a computer) you make mistakes like that. Sorry.

Correction to Address for Rally
by Dave Peter Sunday January 21, 2007 at 01:19 AM
davidhp_lv@yahoo.com

Just to make sure everyone knows where the rally is the address for the federal building is 333 Las Vegas Blvd South (I left the South part off in the orginal).
It's downtown by Las Vegas Blvd and Bridger.

1 - 3 pm

Let's send a loud message to Washington that escalation is unacceptable and ignoring the will of the people is criminal.

End the War NOW!!

A resolution with no action by congress is not the will of the people. End the war now!

After Action Report On Jan 27th Rally

Coalition Anti War Rally in Las Vegas January 27

Las Vegas made a statement in opposition to the continuing occupation of Iraq and Bush administrationís plans to escalate by increasing troop strength. A coalition of MoveOn, Democracy For America (DFA), Nevada Workers Against the War, the Democratic Party, Nevada Desert Experience, Food Not Bombs, union workers, veterans, family members of active duty military members, and other concerned Nevadans about 160 strong stood in front of the federal governmentís symbol in Las Vegas, the Lloyd George Federal Courthouse to be heard. A wall of people with signs calling for peace and an end to the Bush occupation of Iraq lined Las Vegas Blvd and passers by made it clear of their support of the demonstrators by honking horns and flashing peace signs. The crowd ranged from young children to retired people, all concerned with the Bush administrationís refusal to acknowledge the will of the people in last Novemberís election as a call to end the occupation of Iraq.

Only two people showed up as counter demonstrators standing across the street from the main body of the anti occupation groups. Some of the anti occupation demonstrators crossed the street so the pro Bush supporters were outnumbered. One couple wanted to attend an anti war rally drove from Salt Lake City in the morning to attend the Las Vegas rally. Local media was poor in coverage of the demonstration, only two reporters came to the event, one as the rally was breaking up.

April, whose brother is serving in Iraq, spoke eloquently concerning the pain of having a family member in harmís way during an interview by the one local TV station that came during the height of the demonstration. Other demonstrators had children and other relatives serving in the combat zone and described the worry that family members must face day in and day out for loved ones who signed up to defend their country not fight for oil corporationís profit and a presidentís personal agenda.

Many labor unions also had members present calling for an end to war fought by young Americans recruited from working class families and the commitment of the billions of dollars wasted on this war to needs of the people.

Veterans present were concerned that service members wounded in the war zones are not being cared for properly when they return home with devastating disabilities. Bush is willing to send our young military members off to war, but is not willing to properly fund the Veterans Administration to care for the wounded when they return.

The end of rally put the call out for another demonstration and a meeting of the groups involved in organizing this rally. All present agreed to another demonstration on March 17th the anniversary of the start of this war and occupation in solidarity with other nationally planned demonstrations. Particulars of future demonstrations will be announced through emails, web pages, and by telephone contact. All agreed we need to keep the pressure on our elected representative, especially Congressman Porter who has narrowly won the past two elections and continues to support the Bush war agenda without regard for the peopleís will in his district.

Hey Dave! Thanks for the good words. I was actually on Channel 5 news late that night. Also, if you go to http://www.vegascommunityonline.com, Politically Speaking, there is coverage of the event there also (coming soon). The column is called "Veteran's Voice". FYI: People actually donated 39 boxes of cookies for the troops that day! Thanks everyone for the support! I know our soldiers appreciate it. April
