Food Not Bombs Going to Federal Court (center)

FNB Las Vegas, the ACLU of Nevada, and Gail Sacco are going to Federal Court to challenge a city ordinance which requires a permit for gatherings over 25 in public parks. In the approximately 64 city parks, only 14 are reservable according to the city of Las Vegas. The ACLU feels this is a major stifling of free speech and assembly...

For about a year now the local chapter of Food Not Bombs, an anti-war group that serves free vegan food to the hungry, has been targetted and harassed by both park marshals and local police.
Gail Sacco, among many other volunteers, share food with homeless, working poor, and other people in the Las Vegas community every day at 2PM at Huntridge Circle Park- located on Maryland Pkwy, just South of Charleston.
Open mic free speech, soccer games, tree-climbing, and protesting for homeless peoples' rights have been common activities at these gatherings.
But now, as repression by the state has escalated, Gail Sacco and another woman are being charged with breaking the law. And, the ACLU is ready to fight for the side of the people.
According to the ACLU of Nevada, any organization or individual who has been threatened with arrest, citation, or 86'ing from the park- for trying to help the needy- has legal standing and can join the federal lawsuit as plaintiffs.

As far as I know, a court date for the federal case has not been set yet.
I do not know anything about the legal procedures but as the lead note here indicates, the ACLU is interested in:
anyone who has been cited, arrested, or threatened with arrest for feeding hungry people in public parks;
and also anyone who has been arrested for trespassing in the public parks after being verbally 86'd from the park without due process of law.
The ACLU is also interested in those folks who are arrested repeatedly for eating, sitting, sleeping, walking on the wrong side of a crosswalk, etc.
If you or any of your friends or acquaintances have had dealings like those above and are interested in talking with the ACLU, you can e-mail me or call the ACLU direct.
Chalkers and Food Sharers Beware

This is my small effort at humor, folks.
Chalkers and Food Sharers beware. Police are now indoctrinating and recruiting children in children's parks to be informers.

Gail Sacco is a joke. I know first hand she is not truly interested in helping the homeless or the poor, she is only looking to get in the news. The woman is a self-proclaimed 'Professional Protester.' If she really wanted to help these people she would've listened to what the marshal said and she and her tiny group would still be in Huntridge Park feeding people. But she was looking for a fight (remember, she's a Professional Protester) and her big mouth got in the way and she got kicked out of the park...which is exactly what she wanted to happen. If you follow this woman and believe in what she's doing, you need to step back and take a good look at your sensibility. Take a look at her 'protests'- Books Not Bombs, Food Not Bombs...are you starting to see a pattern?

Although your note has absolutely no merit and is clearly libelous, I will respond.
How you know first-hand what is in my heart is beyond me.
I never wanted to be in the news. However, now that this has "turned" political, I welcome the media attention to the excessive homeless issue that we have in one of the richest cities in the world.
Please point to where I ever proclaimed to be a "professional" protester. That is absurd.
Which marshal should I have listened to? They all had different rules and different ways of enforcing those rules.
Why would I want to be kicked out of the park?
Where did you come up with this pattern?
I've never protested with Books Not Bombs.
Since this website is practically defunct, there was really no need for me to reply. And I don't really need to defend myself because I know what I am doing with myself everyday.
However, maybe this note will inspire you to get out there and contribute to building community rather than using your energy to bad-mouth others and make up stories.
